@Suiseiseki @eris thermal throttling is only as good as the heat distribution and sensors. GMP produced a very small hotspot in the CPU, so that part likely overheats before the heat dissipates and system can pick up on it. hence, for this specific load, the cooler was way undersized and the poor thermal paste application made the problem worse.

load transients are basically short spikes in power usage. these specific corsair PSUs are budget parts with known problems (i’ve owned an RM650 before and it caused problems with a way less demanding system). when the PSU is not coping well with transients and has problems with ripple, it can cause damage to the VRMs.
