@rose oh, in GTK’s dialog the files DO eventually show up while loading! seems to update in fixed-size batches, not adjusted for how slow the operation is. it will also always attempt to fetch thumbnails, with no obvious way to disable it, regardless of how slow the filesystem is or how much cpu time and memory it’ll consume in the process
and if you use the scroll bar in grid view with a very large directory and hold it at a certain position, it will keep jumping up and down until you release the mouse button
