@q66 personally i thought “oh that’s very neat” when i figured out i can paste text with a middle click/three-finger-tap after selecting it, and have been using the feature ever since. HOWEVER only with Qt applications because GTK often does not distinguish between automatic selections (like when something auto-selects the content of a text input widget) and explicit user selections, which makes that feature pretty much useless.
i don’t think it’s worth starting any shitstorms over. but i also strongly believe that the linux desktop should aim to be a little different from the mainstream, and offer its own distinct workflows even with mainstream-oriented DEs. so, “most users are not used to this” is not a good argument imo, but “this behaves in unintuitive ways that are not explained anywhere even during onboarding tutorials (e.g. secondary buffer, auto-select interference)” definitely is.
